Trellis

A church community platform built around one conviction: people over metrics.

Trellis is in active development in partnership with The Village Church Denton.

We are building it together with their staff and leadership from the ground up.

Our Conviction

Church is not a business. People are not metrics.

A giving dashboard should never replace knowing someone's name. Attendance numbers should never substitute for knowing someone's story.

The church management software industry has drifted toward treating congregations like customer databases. Automating pipelines for visitors as if they are leads to convert. Gamifying donation tracking. Reducing the health of a church to dashboards and KPIs. We believe that approach is fundamentally wrong.

Trellis exists because ministry leaders deserve tools that serve them, not the other way around. The goal is simple: eliminate the administrative friction between church leaders and the people they serve, so they can get back to the work that actually matters.

Overview

Two sides that work together

Member-Facing Layer

A community directory where congregation members can find each other, see where they can serve, discover upcoming events, and manage their own contact information and privacy settings. Simple enough that anyone can use it without a tutorial.

Staff and Admin Layer

A management layer giving church leaders the tools to organize their congregation: members, households, groups, ministries, events, and communication. Built for church staff and volunteers, not IT departments.

What Makes Trellis Different

Built for the work, not the pitch deck

Built by ministry leaders

This is not a product built by a software company that studied churches from the outside. It is built by people who live this work and have wrestled with the spreadsheets, the disconnected tools, and the clunky platforms that cost too much and do too little.

People over metrics

We will never build a donor analytics dashboard or an engagement score. Every feature we build asks one question: does this help a ministry leader serve their people better?

No predatory pricing

Built for small to mid-size churches and church plants that do not have enterprise budgets. No per-seat pricing that punishes growth. No feature gating that forces upgrades. No contracts that lock you in.

Your data is yours

Full CSV export. Clean data structures. No social layer, no feeds, no engagement algorithms. If you outgrow Trellis or find something better, we will help you leave. No hostage situations.

What Is Built

Feature-complete where it counts

Trellis is in active development with a full-featured core. Here is what is live today:

People and Households

Member profiles with photo upload, privacy controls, and a privacy-aware directory. Family relationship tracking and household management built in from the start.

Groups and Zones

Hierarchical group management with categories, leaders, and geographic zone polygons that auto-assign members by address. Neighborhood organization built around how churches actually work.

Roles and Permissions

Five-tier role system covering minor, attendee, member, staff, and admin with granular staff permissions. Tag system with sensitive tag support and controlled member visibility.

Ministries and Volunteers

Ministry management with rotation types, service time assignments, and role tags. Volunteer schedule generation with member-initiated swap requests so coordination stays out of your inbox.

Children's Check-In

Check-in flow with security codes, household search, and capacity enforcement. Built with children's safety as the first requirement, not an afterthought.

Events and Communication

Event calendar with categories, RSVP, and recurring series. Mailing lists supporting both curated static lists and dynamic rules-based membership that stays current automatically.

Invites and Onboarding

Invite system handling both new-user flows and account-claim flows for existing member records, with rate limiting built in.

Geography and Geocoding

Geocoding dashboard with map markers, family grouping, and neighborhood polygon zones for geographic organization and community visibility.

Dates and Milestones

Important date tracking with automatic tag synchronization on expiration, so records stay accurate without manual cleanup.

Who It Is For

Real tools for small and mid-size churches

Trellis is designed for church staff and volunteers, not IT departments. If your current process involves spreadsheets, group texts, and manual coordination, Trellis is built to replace that without the enterprise complexity or the enterprise price tag.

We are building Trellis in close partnership with The Village Church Denton in Denton, TX. Their staff and leadership are actively involved in shaping the product from the ground up. Development began in March 2026.
